According to local blogger Rick Fenbers, “It’s one of the best known, but least seen, urban legends around here. A group of Satanists supposedly used to meet there in some type of altar room and conduct their rituals. … They must have been pretty good, because the legend claims they managed to open a doorway to hell.”
These assertions were validated back in 2012 when Paranormal filmmaker David Scott decided to investigate the tunnels of the drain. After the shoot, he posted the video to YouTube describing how absolutely terrified he was during his entire time in Satan’s Hallow.

While it’s not shown in the video above, according to the “Believe” A Paranormal Experience YouTube channel, the investigation was cut short due to the high levels of bad energy and the scary words the Ghost Box was speaking. David also stated, “this is one of the scariest locations I have ever investigated,” noting the team has investigated over 150 locations.

As Fenbers notes, the ‘portal to hell’ is thought to be guarded by a demon known as the ‘Shadow Man.’ “He is some kind of hall monitor from hell, left here by Satan to guard these tunnels,” he states. “The Shadow Man is said to appear in the form of a human, only completely blacked out. Hence his name.”
However, police insist that the reputation the storm drain holds is nothing more than fantasy. Blue Ash Police Lt. Steve Schueler stated that the majority of notoriety gained, has been solely through rumors. In fact, he also describes that thrill seekers are more of a pain in the neck than the storm drain itself.
“It’s rough on the homeowners,” he says. “People park in their driveway and try to get into the drainage system and nobody likes that. (The owner) has had to chase off some people, for sure.”
As for the talks of sacrifices, Schueler explains, “We’ve never had human sacrifice or any animal killings. We’ve never had any of that.” He went on to add, “We’ve talked to some kids and warned them. We were all teens at one time and did crazy stuff. We try to give them a warning and get them on their way.”
So what do you think – out of control rumor or gateway to hell? Do you think you could work up the nerve to venture into Satan’s Hallow? Let us know in the comments below.
Walking through the drainage tunnels can be an eerie experience, Schueler said.
“I think it’s just a pretty extensive system,” he said. “There’s one area at the end that’s a concrete box where the pipe changes elevation… When you’re down there, your imagination plays tricks on you. You can start to hear and see things.”
